Lakeview Veterinary Hospital is always trying to excel in our customer service and standards of care, so we’re excited to offer our clients the convenient option of TeleVet! This app will allow us to communicate via text, photos and videos to answer your questions without having to come into our hospital. The app is specifically designed for our patients who are current on their annual physical exam. Sometimes, we may not be able to diagnose your pet without physically examining them or performing supplementary diagnostics in the hospital.

The TeleVet app is not for emergencies! Doctors will be responding 7 days a week from 9am – 5:30pm with a typical response time of 1-2 hours. There will be a charge at the end of the consultation with your doctor.

Why are we offering telemedicine?

Telemedicine isn’t about replacing visits to the hospital. It’s about complementing those services and establishing a means to monitor patients and communicate with clients using modern telecommunication tools. Clients are always welcome call and schedule an appointment, but we hope that our clients will appreciate the flexibility of a telemedicine consultation when appropriate.

What is the Televet app?

Televet is a mobile application that connects providers with their existing patients through secure text, call or video.

How much does a virtual exam cost?


Will I get charged $40 per text?

No. You will be charged per problem. Some problems take minutes to resolve, while others might take a few days messaging and sending pictures. Our goal is to provide veterinary care that is more convenient and less expensive.

What if my problem cannot be fixed via the virtual consultation and results me having to schedule an office visit for a physical exam?

If you start with a virtual consultation and end up with the doctor requesting a follow up physical exam to solve the problem, you will only be charged a discounted Treatment Progress Exam

How do I know when I will be charged?

The doctor or nurse will send you a message in the app before you are charged. The charge is initiated usually at the end of the consultation. It is not an automatic charge. If you are ever surprised by a charge, we will fix it.

If my pet has not be examined in a year, can I use the app?

Yes, but the doctor will not legally be able to prescribe medications until they have performed a physical exam on your pet. The American Veterinary Medical Association explains that given the current state of technological capabilities, available research, and the current state and federal regulatory landscape, the AVMA believes that veterinary telemedicine should only be conducted within an existing Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR), with the exception for advice given in an emergency until that patient can be seen by a veterinarian.

Most states and the AVMA’s Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics require a VCPR for a veterinarian to diagnose, prescribe medication or otherwise treat an animal. This requires us to have examined your pet within the last year.

If I am not a client at Lakeview Veterinary Hospital, can I use the app?

Yes, but according to the AVMA, if a VCPR does not exist, the veterinarian or any other veterinary care professional can only offer general advice that is not specific to a particular patient. It should not include diagnosing, prognosis or therapeutics.

When can I use the app?

The telemedicine app is not for emergencies! You can use the app 7 days a week from 9am – 5:30pm. Our doctors have a typical response time of 1-2 hours.
